Risk doesn’t have to keep you up at night.

Predict Uncertainty and build a Confident Business with an ISO work frame

HarborRisk’s flagship course, Building a Safer Small Business, was created for owners who are tired of feeling one accident, one mistake, or one bad week away from disaster. The moment everything changed

From a single incident to a lifelong mission to protect small businesses

A decade ago, I got a late-night call from a client—an independent bakery owner. A minor slip-and-fall had turned into a lawsuit that threatened everything she’d built. She’d done "everything right" in her mind, but no one had ever walked her through what real risk management looks like for a small business.

That night, we pieced together policies, photos, and statements. We managed to protect her, but it could have been far easier—and far less terrifying—if she’d had a simple, human way to understand her risks long before anything went wrong.

Since then, I’ve helped hundreds of small business owners quietly strengthen their foundations—without scare tactics, jargon, or corporate-size budgets. HarborRisk exists to give you that same calm, prepared confidence, one practical step at a time.

Building a Safer Small Business is the program I wish that bakery owner had before she ever had to make that late-night call.

By the end of the course

You’ll trade vague anxiety for a real, working risk plan

This isn’t about imagining every worst-case scenario. It’s about calmly understanding where your real exposure is—and putting simple, realistic guardrails in place so you can focus on growing your business.

  • Spot the 5 most common blind spots that quietly put small businesses at risk—before they become expensive surprises.
  • Map your operations so you can see, in plain language, where people, processes, and policies leave you exposed.
  • Create a practical risk register that fits on a single page and actually gets used by your team.
  • Tighten up contracts, policies, and insurance with the right questions to ask (and exactly what to look for).
  • Design simple incident-response checklists so you’re never scrambling in the heat of the moment.
  • Walk away with a prioritized 90-day action plan you can start on the same day you finish the course.

Most owners describe the result as “breathing room.” You’ll still face uncertainty—but you won’t feel alone, unprepared, or in the dark.

What other owners are saying

“For the first time, I feel like a responsible owner—not just a hopeful one.”

“We run a small creative studio, and risk was always this vague cloud in the background. After the course, we have a one-page risk map, updated contracts, and a simple checklist for new projects. I sleep better, and my team knows what to do when things wobble.”

— Maya R., Founder of Northline Studio (10-person creative agency)

“Alexandra never made me feel foolish for what I didn’t know. She helped us untangle our leases, vendor agreements, and safety procedures in a way my whole team can understand. When a freezer failed last month, we followed our plan and avoided what would have been a very expensive disaster last year.”

— Daniel K., Owner of Harvest Lane Markets (3-location specialty grocery)

“Before HarborRisk, risk management felt like something only big companies could afford. Now it feels like part of how we lead well.”

Questions you might be asking

Is this course right for me if I’m a very small business?

Most participants are owners and leaders of businesses with 3–75 employees, but we also welcome solo founders with growth plans. The content is practical and adaptable, and the frameworks work whether you run a small team or are getting ready to hire your first few employees.

Do I need a legal or financial background to keep up?

No. The course is built in plain, human language. We’ll explain core concepts without jargon and give you the exact questions to bring to your attorney, accountant, or insurance advisor when something requires their expertise.

How much time should I set aside each week?

Most owners spend about 2–3 hours per week on lessons, reflection, and implementation. Many choose to bring a key team member into the process so you can share the work and decisions.

Will this replace my lawyer or insurance broker?

This course does not provide legal or insurance advice and does not replace your professional advisors. Instead, it helps you understand your business clearly so you can use those professional relationships more effectively and confidently.

What if I can’t make one of the live calls?

All live sessions are recorded and shared with participants. You can also submit questions in advance, and we’ll address them during the session so you can watch the answer on your own time.
